1. Introduction

JKPK (Jurnal Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal published by the Department of Chemistry Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Indonesia.

These guidelines provide essential information for authors preparing and submitting manuscripts to JKPK. Authors are expected to carefully follow the journal's requirements to ensure the quality of their manuscripts and facilitate an efficient submission, peer-review, and publication process.

2. Manuscript Type and Scope

JKPK exclusively accepts Original Research Articles presenting original, unpublished, and scientifically significant research findings in the fields of chemistry and chemistry education.

Submitted manuscripts must align with the journal's Focus and Scope and demonstrate scientific novelty, methodological rigor, reliable findings, and meaningful contributions to their respective fields.

Review articles, conceptual papers, opinion articles, and manuscripts that do not report original research findings are not considered for publication.

3. General Requirements

Before submitting a manuscript, authors must ensure that the following requirements are fulfilled:

1. Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English.
2. Originality: Manuscripts must present original work that has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
3. Scientific Quality: Manuscripts must clearly present the research objectives, appropriate methodologies, reliable findings, and significant scientific contributions.
4. Research Integrity: All data, results, and interpretations must be reported accurately and transparently, without fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism.
5. Author Approval: All listed authors must have reviewed and approved the manuscript and agreed to its submission to JKPK.
6. Publication Ethics: Manuscripts must comply with the journal's publication ethics, authorship requirements, and other applicable editorial policies.

4. Manuscript Preparation

4.1. Manuscript Template and Formatting

All manuscripts must be prepared using the official JKPK manuscript template.

Authors must follow the formatting requirements specified in the template, including the arrangement of manuscript sections, page layout, typography, tables, figures, and references.

The journal's submission preparation checklist also specifies single-spaced text, a 12-point font, the use of italics rather than underlining (except for URLs), and the placement of tables and figures within the text at appropriate locations. In the event of differences, authors should contact the editorial office for clarification.

4.2. Manuscript Structure

Original Research Articles should be organized according to the official JKPK template and generally include the following components:

1. Title: A concise and informative statement accurately reflecting the research.
2. Abstract: A clear summary of the research background or objectives, methodology, principal findings, and conclusions.
3. Keywords: Relevant terms representing the main concepts and research focus.
4. Introduction: Research background, relevant literature, identification of research gaps, scientific novelty, and research objectives.
5. Materials and Methods / Research Methods: A clear explanation of the research design, materials, instruments, procedures, data collection, and analytical methods, as appropriate to the research field.
6. Results and Discussion: A systematic presentation and critical interpretation of research findings, supported by relevant evidence and comparisons with previous studies.
7. Conclusion: A concise statement of the principal findings, their implications, and contributions to the field.
8. References: A complete list of all cited sources, formatted according to the IEEE referencing style.

Any additional sections, including acknowledgments, funding information, author contributions, and other declarations, should be included as required by the journal's template and applicable editorial policies.

4.3. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures must be relevant, clearly presented, appropriately numbered, and cited in the manuscript.

Each table and figure must have an informative caption and be presented in sufficient quality to ensure readability and accurate interpretation.

Authors must ensure the accuracy of graphical representations and obtain appropriate permission when reproducing or adapting copyrighted materials from other sources.

4.4. References and Citations

JKPK uses the IEEE citation and referencing style. In-text citations must be numbered according to their order of appearance, using square brackets, such as [1], [2], and [3].

All cited references must appear in the reference list, and all references included in the reference list must be cited in the manuscript.

References should be relevant, reliable, and sufficient to support the research background, methodology, findings, and scientific discussion.

Authors are encouraged to use reference management software, such as Mendeley, Zotero, RefWorks, or EndNote, to maintain accuracy and consistency in citations and references.

4.5. Reference Management Resources

To assist authors in preparing references and managing citations, the following resources are available:

Authors remain responsible for verifying the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of all references, regardless of the reference management software used.

5. Submission Process

5.1. Online Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the JKPK online submission system (Open Journal Systems/OJS).

Authors must register for an account or log in using their existing credentials before initiating a new submission.

During submission, authors must provide accurate manuscript metadata, including the title, abstract, keywords, author names, institutional affiliations, and other required information.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all submission information is accurate and complete.

5.2. Submission Documents

Authors should prepare the following documents and information before submission:

• The main manuscript prepared using the official JKPK template.
• A separate title page containing the manuscript title, complete author names, institutional affiliations, and corresponding author information, in accordance with the journal's double-blind review instructions.
• Supporting or supplementary research materials, where applicable.
• Relevant ethical approval information, research declarations, or other documentation, where required.

Additional documents may be requested by the editorial office during the evaluation or publication process.

5.3. Preparation for Double-Blind Peer Review

JKPK implements a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another.

Authors must ensure that the manuscript prepared for peer review does not contain information that could directly reveal their identities.

Author names, affiliations, email addresses, and other identifying details must be provided separately. Authors should also review manuscript properties and supplementary files to prevent unintended disclosure of identifying information.

6. Editorial and Peer Review Process

6.1. Initial Editorial Assessment

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment conducted by the editorial team.

The assessment considers the manuscript's relevance to the journal's scope, originality, scientific quality, adherence to author guidelines, and compliance with publication ethics.

Submitted manuscripts are also subject to similarity screening using Turnitin in accordance with the journal's editorial policies.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's requirements may be returned for revision or rejected before external peer review.

6.2. Peer Review Process

Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process involving two reviewers with expertise relevant to the submitted research.

The review process evaluates scientific originality, methodological quality, reliability of results, clarity of presentation, and the significance of the research contribution.

Editorial decisions are made based on the reviewers' evaluations and the editorial team's assessment of the manuscript.

6.3. Manuscript Revision

Authors receiving requests for revision must carefully address the comments and recommendations provided by the editors and reviewers.

Revised submissions should be accompanied by a point-by-point response explaining how each comment has been addressed. When authors disagree with a recommendation, they should provide a clear and scientifically justified explanation.

Revised manuscripts must be submitted within the timeframe specified by the editorial office.

The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection rests with the editorial team.

7. Publication Ethics and Author Responsibilities

All authors submitting manuscripts to JKPK must adhere to the principles of responsible research and scholarly publishing.

7.1. Authorship and Author Contributions

All listed authors must meet the journal's authorship criteria, have made substantial scholarly contributions, and approve the submitted manuscript.

Authors must accurately identify their respective contributions and comply with the journal's Authorship Criteria and applicable CRediT Contributor Roles Taxonomy.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the editorial office and for ensuring that all co-authors are informed of manuscript submissions, revisions, and editorial decisions.

Changes to authorship are subject to JKPK's established editorial policies and require appropriate justification and approval.

7.2. Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, including students, teachers, or other research respondents, must comply with applicable research ethics requirements.

Authors must ensure that appropriate ethical approval and informed consent have been obtained where required and that participant privacy and confidentiality are adequately protected.

Research involving laboratory experiments, chemicals, biological materials, or other relevant research activities must be conducted in accordance with applicable ethical and safety standards.

7.3. Conflicts of Interest and Funding

Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could potentially influence the research, interpretation of findings, or publication process.

All relevant funding sources and financial support must be appropriately acknowledged.

Authors who received no specific funding may include a statement indicating that the research received no external financial support.

7.4. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools

Authors must use generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies responsibly and transparently.

The substantive use of AI tools in manuscript preparation or research activities must be disclosed in accordance with the journal's publication policies.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Human authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the submitted manuscript, including any AI-assisted content.

The use of basic tools for grammar, spelling, and reference checking does not require a separate AI-use declaration unless otherwise specified by the journal.

7.5. Research Data and Transparency

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the research data and findings reported in their manuscripts.

Research methodologies, analytical procedures, and results must be described with sufficient clarity to allow appropriate scientific evaluation and, where feasible, reproducibility.

The editorial office may request supporting data, methodological clarification, or additional research documentation when necessary.

Authors must comply with the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement and applicable guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

8. After Acceptance and Publication

8.1. Final Manuscript Preparation and Proofreading

Following manuscript acceptance, authors may be required to complete final formatting, language revisions, and other editorial requirements before publication.

The corresponding author is responsible for reviewing the final proofs, verifying the accuracy of the manuscript, and promptly communicating any necessary corrections to the editorial office.

8.2. Copyright and Licensing

Authors must comply with JKPK's copyright and licensing requirements.

For manuscripts accepted for publication, authors are required to complete the applicable Copyright Transfer Agreement Form.

Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), in accordance with the journal's published licensing information.

8.3. Publication Fees

JKPK applies publication charges in accordance with its established publication fee policy.

Authors are advised to review the Publication Fee page for information regarding applicable charges, potential waivers, and payment procedures.

Any language editing costs required following editorial recommendations are the responsibility of the authors, in accordance with the journal's policy.

8.4. Open Access and Publication

JKPK provides immediate open access to its published articles to support the dissemination and exchange of scientific knowledge.

Authors are encouraged to disseminate their published research responsibly, while complying with the journal's copyright and licensing requirements.
