Abstract

This study aims to analyze (1) the quality of questions asked by students of SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta on chemistry learning based on cognitive processes, (2) the quality of questions asked by students of SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta on chemistry learning based on the dimension of knowledge. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study were students of classes XII Science 1, XII Science 2, XII Science 7, and XII Science 9 SMAN 3 Surakarta. The data in this study is in the form of questions students ask orally in chemistry learning. The sampling technique is carried out by purposive sampling technique. Data collection used passive participatory observation, interviews, and documentation throughout the learning process. The validity test technique used is the triangulation method. Data analysis uses qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results of this study were (1) students' questions on the cognitive process dimension dominated by understanding questions (C2) with a percentage of 47%. The emergence of higherorder thinking questions is still tiny, learners can only ask questions until the cognitive process evaluates (C5); (2) Student questions based on the knowledge dimension are dominated by conceptual knowledge with a percentage of 61%. Students can raise questions up to the procedural knowledge dimension. This shows that the quality of questions students ask based on the cognitive process dimension and the knowledge dimension of Bloom's taxonomy revision on Benzene material and its derivatives is dominated by Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS)
