Guidelines for the author of ALCHEMY Jurnal Penelitian Kimia
Submission Preparation
All manuscripts should describe original research which has not been reported or submitted elsewhere. ALCHEMY Jurnal Penelitian Kimia receives scientific articles in the area of chemistry. Please follow the focus and scope of ALCHEMY Jurnal Penelitian Kimia. The article can be a dissemination of the result of research or a comprehensive review article. ALCHEMY Jurnal Penelitian Kimia receives articles in Indonesian or English. Articles written in Indonesian must include abstracts in English and in Indonesian.
Manuscript Format
- Abstracts are written in Indonesian and English using Times New Roman 9 pt, single spacing. The English title is included in the English abstract. The abstract length is not more than 250 words. Avoid using acronyms, abbreviations, or symbols in the abstract. Abstracts should describe both qualitative and quantitative information. Include 3-5 keywords related to the abstract.
- The article should be written in MS Word, Times New Roman 10 pt of font type, and 1.15 space. The paper size is A4, with a margin on the top, bottom, left, and right of 2.5 cm. The first line of the paragraph should be written indented 0.75 cm.
- The manuscript must be saved in MS Word format, and the article should be submitted online through https://jurnal.uns.ac.id/alchemy/. The author must register to get a username and password to log in.
- The author's name (s) is written without degree/salutation. Meanwhile, the name and address of the affiliation must be written completely, including the email of the corresponding author.
- The manuscript of the Research Article consists of an abstract, introduction, method, result and discussion, conclusion, acknowledgment (if any), and references. Meanwhile, a Review Article can be written without a method section.
- The number of tables, figures, mathematical equations, and chemical reactions are in accordance with their citation in the text.
- Figures are presented in high pixelation (min. 300 dpi). If necessary, the author(s) might submit a separate file of figures (in jpeg, gif, tiff, or png format) for the editing process.
- The citations and references should follow the Harvard style in the ALCHEMY bibliography style.
Manuscript structure
The submitted article should follow the manuscript structure in order, including:
1. Title
The title is an opportunity to attract the reader’s attention. Remember that readers are the potential authors who will cite your article. Identify the main issue of the paper. Begin with the subject of the paper. The title should be accurate, unambiguous, specific, and informative. It should be written clearly and concisely, describing the contents of the research. Avoid abbreviations and uncommon formulas where possible.
2. Author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s)
A manuscript has the main author and co-authors with a full name of the author and co-authors (no abbreviation), includes an address (es) and email addresses clearly. Each address should be preceded by a numerical superscript corresponding to the same superscript after the name of the author concerned. Give an asterisk (*) in the contact person for correspondence.
3. Abstract
A concise and factual abstract is required. Each paper should have an abstract of about 150-200 words without citations. The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results, and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, so it must be able to stand alone. The abstract must be integrated and independent, which consists of an introduction and purpose, methods, results, conclusion, and suggestion. However, the abstract should be written as a single paragraph without these headers. For this reason, References should be avoided. Also, non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided, but if essential they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract itself.
4. Keywords (3-5 words)
Keywords are the labels of your manuscript and are critical to have the correct indexing and searching. Keywords should not be more than 5 words or phrases in alphabetical order. Therefore, the keywords should represent the content and highlight of your article. Please use only those abbreviations that are firmly established in the field. e.g. DNA.
5. Introduction
The Introduction section should explain the background of the study, the aims, a summary of the existing literature, the reason why the study was necessary, and the novelty.
6. Experimental methods
The experimental methods consist of materials and methods. The procedure and methods should give reproducible experiments to the readers. The methods section should include:
- the specifications of the materials and instruments used in the study,
- the design and setting of the experiment procedures,
- a clear description of all processes and methodologies employed,
- the data and statistical analysis used, including the software for calculation and simulation, if any,
- if the study involves human participants or animal objects, it must include a statement of ethics approval and consent.
Review articles should be critical analysis and integration of recent advances in an important area of research in chemical sciences, which can stimulate further research and provide a new approach or new knowledge. Review articles should be high quality and written by recognized experts.
7. Results and Discussion
The result and discussion must be written in the same part. They should be presented continuously, from the main result to the supporting results, and equipped with a discussion. This section must show as follows:
- the acuity of the analysis and synthesis carried out critically, including a description of the findings of the work that discusses incisive,
- its relation to previous concepts or theories compares them critically with the work of others,
- the corroboration or the correction of the previous findings, if appropriate,
- and the significance of the work results by highlighting differences with the previous findings/study.
The unit of measurement used should follow the prevailing international system. All figures and tables should be active and editable by an editor.
8. Conclusion
Conclusions should only answer the objectives of the research. The conclusion should be explained clearly. Withdrawal of conclusions based on new findings, which are stated accurately and deeply. New findings can be in the form of theories, postulates, formulas, rules, methods, models, and prototypes. Conclusions must be supported by sufficient research data.
Suggestion placed after the conclusion contains a recommendation on the research done or an input that can be used directly by the consumer. Conclusions and suggestions should be written in less than 100 words and should be written in a paragraph.
9. ReferencesThe ratio of primary references to other references must be >80% in order to improve the quality of thoughts and ideas that were used as a writing framework. The primary reference is the result of direct research, including articles in scientific journals, proceedings, dissertations, theses, monographs, books, and others. References must be up to date with the proportion >80% in the last 10 years. Classical works can be referred to but not to compare the discussion or not to prove originality. Avoid too much reference to self-citation. The citations and references should follow the Harvard style proposed here.
All citations in the text should refer to:
- Single author: the author’s name (without initials, unless there is ambiguity) and the year of publication;
- Two authors: both authors‟ names and the year of publication;
- Three or more authors: first author’s name followed by ‘et al.’ and the year of publication.
Examples: “as demonstrated (Allan and Jones, 1999). Kramer et al. (2010) have recently shown ....”
Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). References must use a reference management tool, such as Mendeley/Zotero/Endnote, following the Harvard style. References should be arranged first alphabetically and then further sorted chronologically if necessary. The references should follow the Harvard style. The writing of references are as follows:

Manuscript template
Starting from September 2020 ALCHEMY Jurnal Penelitian Kimia published a new manuscript template and further modified adding an English title to articles in Bahasa Indonesia since 2022. Beginning in September 2023, the author should add the information about conflict of interest and acknowledgment located after the conclusion. The manuscript template files can be downloaded from the website.
