非华裔汉语学习者跨文化交际能力研究:基于跨文化效能感实证研究
Abstract
Multicultural and multiethnic social structure in Malaysia is highly distinctive. It involves frequent intercultural interactions and consequently attracting interest in intercultural communication competence. For non-native Mandarin learners, learning Mandarin not only dealing with distinction between linguistic structures as well as confronting fundamental intercultural communication obstacles. As trade and economic ties between China and Malaysia expand, the need for Mandarin communication skills among non-native Mandarin individuals has consistently increased. Current studies on intercultural communication competence have primarily concentrated on international students, with comparatively less focus on local non-native learners of Mandarin. Thus, this study attempts to examine the effectiveness of intercultural communication among non-native Mandarin learners by utilising a theoretical model of intercultural communication competence. Intercultural Effectiveness Scale (IES) was employed in this study. A total of 104 MFL learners were participated in this study. The findings revealed that non-native Mandarin learners viewed themselves as having strengths in “Interactant respect,” followed by “interaction relaxation”, and “interaction management”. However, they perceived their skills in “message skills” and “behavioral flexibility” were relatively weaker. This study broadens the exploratory range of intercultural communication competence frameworks to include non-Sonographic cultural sphere cultural environments in Southeast Asia. This study also offers practical insights for international Chinese language teachers aiming to improve students’ intercultural communication skills.
