About the Journal

Javanologi: International Journal of Javanese Studies (e-ISSN: 3025-1877, p-ISSN: 2580-6122) is a peer-reviewed, open-access international journal published by the University Centre of Excellence (Pusat Unggulan IPTEK) Javanologi, Universitas Sebelas Maret. The journal dedicated to the study of Javanese local culture, indigenous knowledge, and cultural heritage as distinctive sources of knowledge for understanding human society, cultural transformation, identity, and contemporary change.

The journal places the locality of Javanese culture at the core of its scholarly identity. It approaches Java not merely as a geographical location or an object of cultural description, but as a living cultural and intellectual landscape shaped by Javanese philosophy, belief systems, language, literature, performing arts, architecture, culinary traditions, ecological knowledge, history, archaeology, and diaspora. Through this orientation, Javanologi seeks to document, critically examine, and theoretically develop knowledge rooted in Javanese cultural experiences.

The journal also explores how Javanese local knowledge encounters contemporary and global change. This includes the transformation of Javanese traditions through urbanization, migration, tourism, education, environmental change, creative industries, popular culture, digital media, artificial intelligence, and other technological developments.
