Abstract

This study investigates the differences in learning activity and autonomy between boarding and non-boarding program of Grade 11 learners at SMAN 2 Balige. Total sampling was drawn from the population of 180 students. 90 of 180 students had selected dormitory program, whereas the remaining 90 students were non-boarding program. The data collection tools are two questionnaires: learning activity and autonomy. The data was analysed by independence t-test indicated that there is a positive and meaningful effect of dormitory program on students’ learning activity and autonomy. Results also indicated a significant difference in learning activity and autonomy with boarding students performing better learning autonomy than non-boarding students.  This result holds significant policy implications for maximizing the advantages of student dormitories in relation to educational performance oversight.
