Abstract

Tropical rainforests, as part of Indonesia’s rich natural heritage, have not been fully utilized in elementary school learning. This study aims to analyze the need for developing teaching materials based on tropical rainforest potential to enhance national insight education. A descriptive quantitative method was used, with data collected through needs questionnaires, curriculum analysis, and local potential studies. Findings show that 91% of teachers consider it important to introduce rainforest potential to foster patriotism, 89% find students more responsive to contextual content, and 86% state current materials lack local representation. Additionally, 93% of teachers prefer teaching materials with visuals, exploratory activities, and national values. Curriculum analysis indicates alignment with IPAS (Science and Social Studies) and NKRI (Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia) elements. Given the concrete-operational nature of elementary students, visual and experiential learning resources are essential. Thus, developing rainforest-based teaching materials is necessary to support students' national insight.
