Penerapan Model Discovery Learning Dengan Metode Eksperimen Untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis Pada Pelajaran IPAS

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 01 Bandardawung in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) lessons. The study aims to (1) describe the steps for implementing the Discovery Learning model using the experiment method to enhance students' critical thinking skills and (2) improve students' critical thinking skills in IPAS lessons through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model using the experiment method. This study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, conducted over two cycles with 21 fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 01 Bandardawung as the subjects. Data collection involved observation, interviews, tests, and documentation, while validity was ensured through content validity testing, source triangulation, and technique triangulation. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research results indicate that (1) the implementation of the Discovery Learning model using the experiment method was carried out in six stages: stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization; and (2) the implementation of the Discovery Learning model using the experiment method successfully improved students' critical thinking skills. The average critical thinking skill score increased from 48 in the pre-action stage to 70 in Cycle I and 81 in Cycle II. Classical mastery increased from 5% in the pre-action stage to 53% in Cycle I and 88% in Cycle II. Improvements were observed across critical thinking skill indicators: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and decision-making. Thus, the implementation of the Discovery Learning model using the experimental method can enhance the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students in the IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) subject at SD Negeri 01 Bandardawung.
