Abstract

The objective of this investigation is to examine the impact of employing mind mapping as an instructional tool on the critical thinking capacities of seventh-grade learners enrolled in the Fiqh course at MTs GUPPI Ambal. The impetus for this research stems from the observed deficiency in students' analytical reasoning skills within Fiqh instruction, which continues to be characterized by traditional pedagogical approaches featuring unidirectional communication and an absence of learning aids. A quantitative methodology was adopted, utilizing a quasi-experimental framework with a nonequivalent control group arrangement. The sample was determined through simple random selection, designating class VII C (26 pupils) as the experimental cohort exposed to mind mapping techniques, while class VII D (26 pupils) served as the control group. Data gathering was executed via testing instruments. Analytical procedures encompassed normality assessments, homogeneity evaluations, an Independent Sample T-Test for pretest scores, and the Mann-Whitney U test for posttest outcomes. Findings revealed that the experimental group's mean pretest score stood at 39.81, whereas the control group recorded 39.62, signifying comparable baseline proficiencies. Subsequent to the intervention, the experimental group's average posttest score escalated to 86.15, in contrast to the control group's 77.12. Hypothesis verification via the Mann-Whitney U test yielded a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.024, which falls below the 0.05 threshold, thereby resulting in the rejection of H0 and acceptance of Ha. It can be inferred that mind mapping media exerts a constructive and noteworthy influence on the critical thinking abilities of seventh-grade students studying Fiqh at MTs GUPPI Ambal.
