Abstract

The ability to express opinions is one of the essential competencies that elementary school students need to support active and critical learning. However, teacher-centered learning often causes students to lack confidence in expressing their ideas and opinions. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Value Clarification Technique (VCT) model on the ability of fifth-grade students to express opinions. The study employed a quantitative approach with an experimental method using a Posttest-Only Group Design. The research sample was determined using Simple Random Sampling from a population of 103 fifth-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through observation sheets and documentation and were analyzed using an Independent Samples t-Test after conducting the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Levene’s homogeneity test. The posttest data from both groups were normally distributed (Sig. = 0.220 for the control group and Sig. = 0.246 for the experimental group) and homogeneous (Sig. = 0.124). The mean score of the experimental group (Mean = 64.33; SD = 2.89) was substantially higher than that of the control group (Mean = 40.16; SD = 2.27), with the Independent Samples t-Test yielding a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). The VCT model was found to have a significant effect on the ability of fifth-grade students to express opinions. Therefore, it can serve as an alternative active learning model based on value clarification for elementary school teachers in Pendidikan Pancasila learning.
