Abstract

Science process skills (SPS) need to be developed from the elementary school level so that students are able to understand science concepts through direct scientific activities. This study aims to analyze the effect of the SAVI learning model assisted by magnetic box media on the science process skills of fifth-grade students on the topic of magnetism and its properties. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 35 students in both the experimental and control groups, selected through cluster random sampling. The SAVI model assisted by magnetic box media was implemented in the experimental group, while the control group used the STAD model assisted by video media. Data were collected through performance assessments and observations and were analyzed using an independent samples t-test and Cohen’s d. The results showed that the mean post-test score of the experimental group was 88.60, which was higher than that of the control group (78.94). The t-test result indicated a significance value of < 0.001 (p < 0.05), with an effect size of 1.69. These findings indicate that the SAVI learning model assisted by magnetic box media has a significant effect on students’ science process skills through active, concrete, and meaningful science learning
