Abstract


The digitalization technology is growing rapidly, especially DSLR cameras and
contactless scanners. This study describes the two technologies, along with various
problems that arise in its application for the preservation of rare book contents
in UGM’s Library. Divided into sub topics of technological innovation, editing
software, performance achievements and problems encountered during 4 years of
its implementation. The explanations of digitalization technology over contactless
scanners and digital cameras are focused on a variety of fundamental and indispensable
main settings, tailored to the advancement of science and technology. It was found
that the biggest problems are inadequate human resource capacity, limited storage,
limited infrastructure, and rare collection management. Although encountered various
obstacles and limitations, the achievement of digitalization activities is quite proud, as
it successfully digitized a number of 1,407 rare book titles.
