Analisis Makna Simbolik Tradhisi Methil Pari Desa Ngujung dan Relevansinya dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Jawa

Abstract

The Methil Pari tradition embodies numerous noble values; however, with the changing times, it has become increasingly rare within the community. This study aims to elucidate the symbolic meanings inherent in the Methil Pari tradition of Ngujung Village, Maospati. It employs a qualitative research design utilizing a semiotic approach. Data sources include specific locations and events (the Methil Pari tradition in Ngujung Village, Maospati, Magetan), informants (Ngujung villagers), and documents (records of the tradition's observance, as well as relevant books and prior journals). Data collection involved interviews, observation, and documentation, while data analysis utilized the flow model proposed by Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal eighteen symbols within the Ngujung Village Methil Pari tradition: symbols representing fragrance and tranquility, virtuous human traits, requests and almsgiving, reminders, life, perseverance and gentleness of heart, perfection, respect, a plea for safety, maturity, wealth, goodness, the shedding of negative traits, unity, and gratitude. The symbolic meanings of the ritual elements (ubarampe) can serve as a guide for living for the community.
