Implementasi Media Diorama untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis Siswa Kelas V Sekolah Dasar
Abstract
This study aims to (1) describe the steps in implementing diorama media to improve the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students at Al-Hilal Islamic Elementary School, Kartasura, and (2) improve students' critical thinking skills in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning on the topic of ecosystems and Indonesia's natural wealth. Prior studies on diorama media have largely focused on pure science subjects, general learning outcomes, or psychological factors such as learning independence and reading interest, leaving a gap in research that specifically measures elementary students' critical thinking skills based on Facione's six indicators through diorama media in an integrated IPAS context. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) following the Kemmis and Mc. Taggart model, conducted collaboratively with the classroom teacher across two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were 21 fifth-grade students at Al-Hilal Islamic Elementary School, Kartasura, in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through observation, written tests, and documentation, with validity established through source and technique triangulation. Data were analyzed qualitatively using the Miles and Huberman interactive model and quantitatively through descriptive analysis. The results show that the implementation of diorama media improved teacher performance from the fair to the good category and increased student activity from the fair to the good category. Students' critical thinking skills also improved substantially from the pre-action stage through Cycle I to Cycle II, with the percentage of students achieving mastery ultimately exceeding the predetermined success indicator of 80%. It is concluded that diorama media effectively enhances fifth-grade students' critical thinking skills in IPAS learning, offering a concrete, contextual alternative to teacher-centered instruction in elementary science and social studies education.
