Abstract
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to see the effectiveness of the application of the Communicative Language Teaching approach with the presentation and discussion method applied to the English Language Course in the Midwifery Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine in the 2nd semester of the class of 2021/2022. This study uses a qualitative approach and descriptive method. Data were collected by observing the learning process and also by distributing questionnaires through Google Form media to a total of 76 students and only 54 students were willing to assess their perceptions. The research instrument is the researcher himself who also acts as a lecturer who teaches the course. Questionnaire data analysis was carried out by grouping student answers according to the theme of the response or the same answer and then presenting them with descriptive statistics according to their tendencies. The results show that its application has proven to be effective in improving: students' English communication skills, motivation, activity, vocabulary mastery, independence, cooperation, and understanding of midwifery material (76.67% or 36 of 54 students) and the lecturer has acted as a good facilitator. However, there are also criticisms from a small number of students about the difficulty of understanding the material.
