Google Sites-Based Interactive Learning Media to Improve Junior High School Students’ English Vocabulary Mastery: A Literature Review

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and synthesize previous research on the use of Google Sites and interactive learning media as a foundation for improving junior high school students’ English vocabulary mastery. This study employed a literature review method with a descriptive qualitative approach. The data consisted of 23 journal articles published between 2020 and 2026 and retrieved through Google Scholar, the Garuda Portal, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The articles were selected based on their relevance to Google Sites, interactive learning media, English language learning, and vocabulary mastery. The data were analyzed by selecting relevant information, categorizing articles according to similar topics, comparing the findings, and constructing a narrative synthesis. The findings indicate that interactive learning media can improve students’ vocabulary mastery, motivation, engagement, and learning independence. Google Sites has the potential to support vocabulary learning by integrating text, images, pronunciation audio, videos, example sentences, interactive exercises, and assessments into an accessible platform. However, studies specifically developing interactive Google Sites media to improve junior high school students’ English vocabulary mastery remain limited. Therefore, the media should be developed according to students’ characteristics and evaluated in terms of validity, practicality, and effectiveness.
