Abstract

Abstract: Deixis is a part of pragmatics which discusses the direction of reference. In literary texts, there is a problem of diexist which becomes an obstacle in understanding it. This study aims to identify and describe deixis in short stories. In addition, the results of this research analysis can be used as a medium in Indonesian language learning activities, especially in descriptive text material. The data in this study are deixis data originating from the short story “Lesson Writing” by Seno Gumira Ajidarma. The method of data collection in this research is note-taking. The data analysis technique used in this study is to use the data analysis technique of the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the research include (1) the use of deixis is dominated by personal deixis as much as 67.04%, (2) discourse deixis as much as 12.08%, (3) place deixis as much as 8.79%, (4) time deixis as much as 8.79 %, and (5) social deixis as much as 3.30%. Through this deixis analysis, it will be easier to understand the learning of descriptive text material.
