KONTESTASI BAHASA INDONESIA DAN BAHASA ASING DI BANDARA INTERNASIONAL YOGYAKARTA: KAJIAN LANSKAP LINGUISTIK

Abstract

Abstract: Indonesian has a position as the state language, national identity, and the identity of the Indonesian nation. On this basis, maintaining the dignity and dignity of the Indonesian language must be carried out, one of which is by prioritizing the Indonesian language in public spaces which has been regulated in Presidential Regulation Number 63 of 2019 concerning the Use of the Indonesian Language. However, the fact that the use of the state language in the public sphere has not yet shown a positive indicator of the implementation of the regulation. Indonesian, English, and regional languages are still contesting in representing the attitudes of language users in these public spaces. In fact, the use of Indonesian in public spaces (naming buildings, roads, signs, etc.) has been regulated in the Presidential Regulation. Based on these linguistic facts, this study will examine the use of language in the public spaces of Yogyakarta International Airport or Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA Airport) in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta Special Region. This research is a qualitative research with survey method and descriptive analysis. The data source is obtained from portraits of language use in public space objects at YIA Airport. YIA Airport is an international airport which was inaugurated and started operating in August 2020. YIA Airport is an international airport that can represent the identity of the nation and the Indonesian language through its public spaces. However, the public space at YIA Airport still shows contestation in the use of Indonesian and foreign languages that are not in accordance with the laws and regulations. In fact, the portrait of YIA Airport should be able to represent a positive attitude towards language in public spaces. The results of this study can be used as a reference for the government in the preparation of evaluations and policies to prioritize the state language in the public sphere in accordance with the laws and regulations.
