Urban Studies Scholarship in Action dalam ICAS13: Membangun Jejaring Akademisi Muda untuk Kolaborasi
Abstract
Artikel ini berfokus pada upaya untuk membangun jaringan akademisi atau peneliti muda di Asia Tenggara yang menekuni studi perkotaan (urban studies). Inisiatif tersebut dilatarbelakangi oleh keprihatinan mengenai marginalisasi Asia Tenggara di tengah diskusi akademik mengenai masalah perkotaan, sehingga hanya segelintir akademisi dari kawasan ini yang memperoleh fellowship atau dana hibah dari Urban Studies Foundation — sebuah lembaga yang terkait erat dengan Urban Studies Journal, jurnal terkemuka di bidang studi perkotaan. Untuk mengatasi kesenjangan tersebut, sebuah jaringan akademisi studi perkotaan di Asia Tenggara dibentuk melalui serangkaian kegiatan yang diselenggarakan pada ajang International Convention of Asian Scholars (ICAS) di Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia, pada 28 Juli–1 Agustus 2024. Kegiatan tersebut meliputi diskusi, lokakarya, dan pertemuan informal yang memberikan ruang bagi para peneliti untuk saling bertukar gagasan, menjalin kerja sama, dan mencari peluang untuk melaksanakan penelitian bersama. Langkah tersebut diharapkan dapat meningkatkan visi, dampak, dan representasi akademisi Asia Tenggara di kancah studi perkotaan, sehingga permasalahan perkotaan di kawasan tersebut lebih dapat diberitakan, dianalisis, dan diberi solusi berdasarkan perspektif dan kepentingan masyarakat setempat.
