Abstract
Based on surveying from several electroplating industries, the fact that waste of the electroplating industries is still above the concentration's limit. The government has settled it which is 2 mgram of chrome metal/liter of solution. Because of that, an effort to overcome liquid electroplating waste is needed. One of the treatment of electroplating waste is an adsorption method. This research's aim was to know the value of mass transfer coefficient on chrome metal adsorption in continue system with active carbon as the adsorbent. Mass transfer coefficient (kca) is important for designing an industrial equipment (adsorber). This research was conducted by flowing waste liquid through a column filled with active carbon grain. Every period of time, the liquid flowed from the column, was analyzed using AAS and resulting the chrome concentration's based on the research's results. The variable which was observed in this research was rate of flow, which were 164.349; 200,442; 222,0978; 272,628; 344,814 and 417 cm3/minute. In this research, mathematical model representing the adsorption process was made.
