Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the cognitive process of slow learners on mathematics subject in the geometry material. This research is qualitative research conducted to three students of slow learners in grade V of SD Negeri Tamansari 1 Yogyakarta. The data collection technique used are tests and test-based interviews. Data validation used triangulation technique, especially the source and time triangulation. In analyzing the data, there were data reduction, data description, and data verification. Results of the research were analyzed by using the revised Bloom Taxonomy. The result showed that slow learners in general could reach cognitive process of C2, which is understand. However, there were different levels of achievement in term of the cognitive process. The slow learner with verbal capability being close to the mental retardation did not even reach cognitive process of C1, that is remember. Moreover, it was found that there were different characteristics among the slow learners. Although the other two subjects showed same achievement in cognitive process of C2, the slow learner with low vision could make sketch of simple geometry and determined the volume of simple geometry.
