Abstract

This study aimed to empirically examine the effect of psychological capital and emotional intelligence in relation to emotional exhaustion. The research subjects comprised 193 hotel frontline employees from various regions in Indonesia, aged between 20-37 years, consisting of 118 females and 75 males. The hypothesis proposed that psychological capital and emotional intelligence influence emotional exhaustion. Data were collected using an emotional exhaustion scale, a psychological capital scale, and an emotional intelligence scale. Data analysis techniques employed were multiple regression analysis and multivariate factor analysis. The regression analysis results indicated that psychological capital and emotional intelligence collectively play a significant role in emotional exhaustion (F=29.825; p=<0.001), with an effective contribution of 23.9%. Partially, psychological capital had a significant negative influence on emotional exhaustion, contributing 5.8%, while emotional intelligence also demonstrated a significant negative influence, contributing 17.9%. An additional analysis examining the differences in demographic variables against the dependent variable proved that no demographic variables had a significant effect on emotional exhaustion.
