Hubungan Kejadian Obesitas dengan Kualitas Hidup pada Remaja
Abstract
Introduction: The incidence of obesity in adolescents seriously impacts various health problems in carrying out daily activities. One of the impacts is resulting in a decrease in quality of life. A person's quality of life can be assessed by the presence of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. This study aims to determine the relationship between obesity and quality of life in adolescents.
Methods: This study is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach with 97 grade 7 and 8 junior high school students at Kalam Kudus Christian Middle School, Surakarta. Sampling was done by simple random sampling technique. The incidence of obesity is measured by measuring body weight and height to obtain BMI (Body Mass Index) which is grouped into nutritional status according to the classification according to the CDC growth charts. The measurement of quality of life uses the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) version 4.0 questionnaire (13-18 years old). The data were then analyzed with the Chi Square test.
Results: Through the entire study sample, the number of obese students was 12 (12.37%) and 85 students (87.76%) were not obese. In the obese group, 6 students (50%) had a good quality of life and 6 students (50%) had a bad quality of life. The Chi Square test shows that the relationship between the incidence of obesity and the quality of life at the Christian Middle School of Kalam Kudus Surakarta has not significant with a p value of 0.685.
Conclusion: There is no relationship between the incidence of obesity and quality of life in adolescent.
