Abstract

Abstract: Understanding concepts on the momentum material owned by students is vary. Some students have understood the concept in accordance with scientific truth, but some are not yet. Constraints experienced by students in understanding the concept can lead to misconception. This study aims to analyze the level of understanding of student concepts on the momentum material by using qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of this research are 33 students of Physics Education of Sebelas Maret University who have not received Basic Physics course. Data were collected by tests and interviews. The results showed that 77.27% of students experienced misconceptions on the transfer of energy of mutually colliding objects. Momentum and impulse materials have been taught in the XI Senior High School, though most students have not understood the concept as a whole.
