Abstract

Abstract:  The Madurese-Bawean language is considered different from the Madura Island language because it is influenced much by the languages used on the surrounding islands and countries. It is a hybrid language. Its hybridity is obtained not only because of the influence of the administrative location of the speech area, but also because the island has inhibitants from various origins. This qualitative descriptive study aims to analyze various affixation processes in the Madurese Bawean language which is unique and makes this language different from its native language. Data were collected from observations and interviews conducted with native speakers on Bawean Island. The analysis was carried out in a distributional method with a Morphological theory approach, especially Affixation, both by derivation and inflection. This research is important to do in order to build linguistic theory of local language, especially morphology. Research in this ethnomorphological review shows that Bawean affixation includes prefixation, suffixation, infixation, and confixation. Distinction based on derivation and inflection is not easy to do. In the affixation which the majority adopts from the Madurese language, it is found that the affixation feature of the Javanese language significantly contributes to the uniqueness and differences of this language.
