Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to describe the presenter's politeness strategy in the Rosi program on Kompas TV in the Terawan Dismissal, Conspiracy or Ethics Violation episode?. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive analytical method. Data collection was done by using the method of observing with the note-taking technique. Data analysis uses the basic theory of politeness strategies proposed by Brown & Levinson. The results showed that there were four politeness strategies found in Rosi's speech, namely direct strategies, positive politeness strategies, negative politeness strategies, and indirect or disguised strategies, while the strategy of not doing speeches was not found in Rosi's speech. Positive politeness strategies found in Rosi's statement include (1) exaggerating interest, support, sympathy for the interlocutor; (2) give or ask for reasons; (3) seek agreement; (4) using forms of group identity; (5) avoid differences of opinion; (6) increase interest in the speech partner; (7) be optimistic; (8) involving speakers and speech partners in activities; and (9) joke or joke. In addition, negative politeness substrates found in Rosi's statement include (1) stating indirectly; (2) being pessimistic; (3) minimize coercion or pressure; (4) pay respects; (5) express apologies; and (6) states face-threatening acts as a general rule. The most common politeness strategy that appears in Rosi's speech is a positive politeness strategy by giving or asking for reasons.
