PENGGUNAAN DAN FUNGSI DARI JENIS BAHASA FIGURATIF SEBAGAI CIRI KHAS GAYA KEPENGARANGAN LEILA S. CHUDORI DALAM NOVEL LAUT BERCERITA

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to describe aspects of stylistics, especially the use and function of the types of figurative language used by author in constructing novel discourse as a distinctive feature of her style. This research is a qualitative research with descriptive research type. The data source in this study is the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori published by Gramedia Pustaka Utama in the 21st print in September 2021. The data in this study are lingual unit in narratives or dialogues between the characters which contains distinctive feature of the use of figurative language and its context in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori. The data collection method used in this study is the note-taking method. The method and data analysis technique used is agih method. This research on the use and function of figurative language is important because it can explore and describe linguistic phenomena as a person’s distinctive feature in constructing a discourse. The result of this study indicate that the figurative language types is found in Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori include metaphors, similes, hyperboles, antonyms, personifications, irony, euphemism, alliterations, paradoxes, periphrasis, metonymies, oxymorons, sarcasm, totem pro parte, assonances, anticipations, asindenton, satire, and ephitet. And the function of its figurative language is to emphasize the implied or explicit meaning that author wants to convey and as an ornaments that beautifies the author’s discourse.
