VARIASI NAMA DAN MAKNA ASAHAN SEBAGAI MEDIA DOA DALAM UPACARA TINGKEBAN DI KABUPATEN PONOROGO (KAJIAN ETNOLINGUISTIK)

Abstract

Abstract:  The definition or meaning of a language is reflected and can be influenced from the point of view of one's culture. Ethnolinguistics exists as a theory of language that discusses the relationship between language and culture. As in the case of the “tingkeban” traditional ceremony in Ponorogo Regency, there are “asahan” or offerings that are used as a medium of prayer to God Almighty, so that pregnant mothers, babies in the womb, and their families receive protection and safety until the baby is born to adulthood. The “tingkeban” ceremony according to the understanding of the people in Ponorogo Regency is one of the ceremonies of the human life cycle, which is carried out as the first pregnancy ceremony at the age of seven months of pregnancy, or seven months of Javanese count. This study aims to reveal the variations of the term “asahan” and the meaning of “asahan” as a medium of prayer in the “tingkeban” ceremony in Ponorogo Regency. Data collection is done using interviews and observations of the community who do the tradition as well as those who understand the tradition. After analyzing the data, the results obtained are in the form of variations of the term “asahan” and its meaning as a medium of prayer asking for safety, blessing, and health in the “tingkeban” ceremony in Ponrogo Regency. This research is important because it wants to review how the tingkeban tradition, especially in Ponorogo Regency, which is broadly a Javanese community, but has its uniqueness as a Ponorogo community.
