MADURESE LANGUAGE MAINTENANCE IN ELECTRONIC MEDIA: A CASE STUDY ON “PESONA TV” OF SUMENEP

Abstract

Abstract:  This research is qualitative descriptive that aims to describe the Madurese language maintenance in Pesona Samangkén news program on Pesona TV. In collecting data, the researchers used observation and interview method. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by sociolinguistics approach. The result of research shows that the maintenance efforts of Madurese in Pesona Samangkén news program is done consistently in applying Madurese level named éngghi bhunten. However, in its processing is also found the language changing that caused by external factors, namely borrowing other language (Indonesian) for translating the difficult vocabularies into Madurese. In addition, the researchers also found that news scripts are not written in the correct Madurese spelling for several reasons. Therefore, the efforts of language maintenance need to be developed and completed in some language aspects, such as in the translating process and spelling rules  in order it can increase the value and existence of Madurese in the speech community.
