DEFINING NEUROLINGUISTICS FOR THE INDONESIAN CONTEXT: A PRELIMINARY STUDY

Abstract

Abstract: This qualitative study was designed to describe the definition of neurolinguistics as an applied linguistic study in Indonesia. To achieve these objectives, the research data is used intangibles text units about neurolinguistics. Data sources of Indonesian and English-language scientific discourse published through scientific website of (a) googlescholar.id dan (b) scimagojr.com. Data collection is carried out by the method of reading and recording techniques/textual documentation (Sudaryanto, 2015). Data analysis was combined with a discourse analysis model (Jørgensen & Phillips, 2002) based on the schemas of content analysis. In general, research results show neurolinguistics as applied linguistic studies can be defined for the linguistic context of Indonesia. In particular, there are three aspects of neurolinguistic definition for the linguistic context of Indonesia, namely the realm of (a) ontological, (b) epistemological, and (c) axiological. Neurolinguistics, ontologically, can be defined as an interdisciplinary language science that examines the phenomenon of language in its relationship with neurological aspects. Neurolinguistics, epistemologically, has a noble value as a field of linguistics based on the principles of linguistic and neurology. Neurolinguistics, in an axiologically, utilized to describe the problems of language abnormalities caused by neurological disorders. Further studies are advised to analyze the phenomenon of specific language disorders such as dyslexia, aphasia, agrammatic, and the like.
