Abstract

Cadmium (Cd) is wide-spread metals in aquatic ecosystem. It has long half-time and toxic in body. Aquatic animals uptake Cd through gills and digestive trac.Cd in body interfere Cd homeostatis in cell. Ca is an important component in shell formation. The purpose of this research were to knowthe effects of Cd exposure on calcium level of gills and kidney freshwater mussel Elongaria orientalis. Mussels are exposed Cd via water (20 µgL-1)for 24 days and 12 days of depuration. Mussels were diseeceted into gills and kidneys on day 0, 1, 6, 12, 18, 24 (exposure time) and day 30, 36 (depuration time). Ca concentration was determined by using Atomic Absorbance Spectrophotometer (AAS). The result showed that Caconcentrationin gills and kidneys increase along exposure time.During depuration time, Ca concentration in both of organs intend to decrease.
