Abstract

The rapid development of automation, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and smart manufacturing has transformed the competency requirements for Industrial Electrical Engineering graduates. Technical proficiency alone is increasingly insufficient, as graduates are also expected to identify technological opportunities, develop innovative solutions, and create economic value. This study aims to examine the integration of Joseph Schumpeter’s Innovation Theory into the development of technopreneurial character among Industrial Electrical Engineering graduates in the automation era. A descriptive qualitative literature review was employed by synthesizing scholarly literature on Schumpeterian innovation, creative destruction, technopreneurship, automation, and engineering education. The analysis focused on translating Schumpeter’s five forms of innovation into the context of electrical engineering and examining their implications for technopreneurial character development. The findings indicate that Schumpeter’s innovation framework provides a relevant conceptual foundation for transforming technical competencies into entrepreneurial value creation. The five forms of innovation new products, new production methods, new markets, new sources of supply, and new forms of industrial organization can be applied to electrical engineering through the development of smart monitoring systems, efficient engineering processes, affordable automation solutions, alternative technology resources, and technology-based service models. This study proposes an integrative pathway from technical competence to problem identification, innovative recombination, prototyping, market validation, commercialization, and value creation. The study contributes a Schumpeterian perspective for strengthening technopreneurship education and repositioning Industrial Electrical Engineering graduates as technology creators and value creators in the era of automation.
