INCREASING COMPLETENESS OF LEARNING AND STUDENT'S CONCERN ON THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH LEARNING MODELS STM ECOSYSTEM DISCUSSION POINTS ON STUDENTS CLASS VII H SMP NEGERI 1 TEGOWANU YEAR 2015/2016

Abstract

To reduce the negative impact of scientific and technological advances on the environment, great participation from the community is required. Starting from the goal then SMP Negeri 1 Tegowanu create Adiwiyata School program, to instill the importance of saving the environment to learners. Learning Model of Science and Technology Society (STS) is a learning approach based on constructivism theory, which emphasizes on the ability to build their own knowledge obtained by students by analyzing the events that occur in society due to technological progress. STM learning model is very appropriately applied to learning KD 7.3 on predicting the effect of human population density on the environment and KD 7.4. apply human role in environmental management to overcome pollution and environmental damage. In the learning process both cycle I and second cycle teachers use STS learning model, by exposing students to the events occurring in the environment due to the density of human population, for example with regard to water supply, availability of land, and limited employment. Students look for articles from newspapers, or the internet then by teacher articles exchanged for use as a group discussion material. In the second cycle STS learning model is still used but the article that became the discussion material comes from the teacher, in an effort to improve the percentage of students who complete learning. Besides that students also practice the composting of leaf waste and make handicrafts from plastic waste and paper as an effort to recycle action . As an effort to instill students' awareness of the environment at the end of the lesson, the teacher always reminds students to play an active role in saving the environment by applying the knowledge that has now been gained to solve the problems occurring in the community. From the research result on learning comprehension aspect, it can be concluded that STM learning model can improve students' learning completeness from 55% at initial condition, to 76% in cycle I and 90% in cycle II. In the aspect of students' awareness to the environment, there is also an increase in the number of students who are categorized as good and very good from the initial condition, to cycle I, or to cycle II, which is 41% to 70% and increased to 100%.
