Abstract

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. The large population has certainly triggered various problems in Jakarta, for example flood. Usually, big flood in Jakarta occur once every five years, but currently big flood can come any time without being predictable. An ex-poste study is needed to dissect the flood phenomenon that occurred in the last 20 years. The purpose of this research is to examine various factors that cause flood in Jakarta, the impacts are caused by flood in Jakarta, and the flood management effort are implemented by Jakarta city government. The research method that is used by the researchers is a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. From the research, flood in Jakarta are happened by natural factor and antropogenic factor. Antropogenic factor can be controlled, but natural factor can’t be controlled. Jakarta has high intensity in antropogenic activity. Large population and population increasing every year certainly poses complex urban problems. Urban complex such as flood can be caused by several factors, include lack of absorption areas, large amounts of waste, erosion, sedimentation, decrease soil levels and low public awareness. Flood in Jakarta give adverse impact for economy, ecosystem, and human activity. Therefore, it is necessary to take some effort for minimizing flood impact with structural efforts, non-structural efforts, and increased community participation.
