SYNTHESIS OF COPPER-BASED CUPRIC OXIDE BLACK PIGMENT ( CuSO4 )

Abstract


Copper (Cu) is a type of heavy metal that we can find in nature. Generally, Cu metal is reddish yellow (orange). Pigment is a substance that gives the impression of color to objects based on its response to light, Copper pigment produced from the reaction between CuSO4 and NaOH has good color strength and is generally quite stable against environmental exposure. Factors that affect the manufacture of cupric oxide black are inappropriate pH, reaction temperature, reaction time, post-reaction treatment such as drying, washing, and grinding of pigments. This experiment was carried out 6 times, In this experiment, experiment 1 obtained a pigment with a yield of 0.1885 grams of pigment / gram CuSO4, a conversion of 81.14%. Experiment 2 obtained a pigment yield of 0.2725 grams of pigment / gram CuSO4, a conversion of 72.74%. Experiment 3 obtained a pigment yield of 0.3314 grams of pigment / gram CuSO4, a conversion of 66.85%. Experiment 4 obtained a pigment yield of 0.3489 grams of pigment/gram CuSO4, a conversion of 65.10%. Experiment 5 obtained a pigment yield of 0.3771 grams of pigment/gram CuSO4, a conversion of 62.28%. And Experiment 6 obtained a pigment yield of 0.3928 grams of pigment/gram CuSO4, a conversion of 60.71%.
