Abstract

The negative effect of industries growth is waste of industries that generates contamination to environment. One kind of waste of industries is lead metal (Pb) in waste water above the concentration’s limit. The government has settled it 0,3 mgram of Pb/ Liter of solution. The effect of lead metal in human body was kidney damage and nervous system damage. Adsorption is one of the treatments of waste water that is simple and economic. The objective of this experiment was to study the mechanism of lead metal adsorption in batch system with chitin as adsorbent using isotherm equilibrium models. Chitin was got from shrimp skin with reducing protein and mineral. In this experiment 5 gram of chitin were mixed with 200 ml lead solutions. After the equilibrium was attained, lead concentration was analyzed using AAS. The variable, observed in this experiment, were lead concentrations and diameters of adsorbent. The results showed that chemisorption was the mechanism of adsorption.
