Abstract

Photography liquid waste contains silver (Ag) heavy metal which very dangerous for human health. Silver recovery from photography liquid waste conducted by conventional methods need expensive cost and give lower yield and lower price product . Photography liquid waste is very potential to be used as precursor on synthesis of silver nanoparticle.  Nanoparticle technology is being developed and applied in industries. This is expected to be a solution on photography liquid waste treatment yielding higher price silver. The aim of the research were to obtain silver nanoparticle from photography liquid waste using flame spray pyrolysis and to research the influence  of carrier gas to the characteristic of silver product. Assisted by carrier gas photography liquid waste as precursor solution was nebulized  on nebulizer OMRON NEU-17 and flown to the inner tube of the burner. LPG gas dan oxidant air  were flown to the inner annulus  and outer annulus, respectively. LPG gas was burned at top end of the burner and heat yielded vaporized the solvent of nebulized precursor solution. The solid produced was separated from gas by particle filter. Solid particle obtained was then examined by X Ray Defraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microsopy (SEM). The kind of carrier gas influenced both crystalinity and particle size of silver.  By XRD analysis showed that oxygen as carrier gas yielded the higher crystalinity of silver than nitrogen as carrier gas. By SEM analysis  showed that the carrier gas of oxygen yielded the smaller size of silver particle than nitrogen as carrier gas. It occured because oxygen was able to complete the combustion of fule so that the flame temperature became higher.
