Abstract

Many processes, such as adsorption, volatilization, absorption, biodegradation, hydrolysis and photolysis, will occur simultaneously as soon as pesticide goes into the environment. These processes characterize the remaining pesticide in the environment and the transfer phenomenon. The photolysis and hydrolysis of carbamate can take place simultaneously because of the existing UV light and water. The variabel studied in the experiment was the wattage of UV light. The experiment were conducted using a batch reactor equipped with magnetic stirrer and it was put in a room which the temperature was kept around 25'C. The UV light was only light that was available in the room. Both photolysis and hydrolysis were pseudo first order with respect to carbofuran concentration. Increasing the wattage of UV light caused the rate constant of photolysis increases The rate costant of carbofuran photolysis is related to the wattage of UV light by : k,= 3, 14. 10·3 + 0,001967. P This equation is valid for the wattage range between 7 and 20 watt and pH = 7, 1. In addition, it is only valid for radiation path of 10 cm from surface area of liquid 103, 87 cm2 and temperatue of 25 'C
