PEMBUATAN ZAT WARNA ALAMI BERBENTUK BUBUK (POWDER) DARI BIJI KESUMBA (BIXA ORELLANA)

Abstract

In this work, dye powder from Bixa orellana seed was produced using spray dryer. The performance of equipment including extractor, evaporator, and spray dryer was studied. One kg of Bixa orelana seed was extracted with 8 kg Ca(OH)2 solution, and followed by evaporation process producing 4000 mL filtrate. After preceeding drying process, this equipment could produce 6-7 grams per 500 mL. The obtained natural dyes could be applied optimally after dissolution using warm water with ratio 1 gram: 2 mL.
