Respons Petani terhadap Rancangan Penyuluhan Pertanian Tumpang Sari Jagung-Cabai di Kecamatan Sitellu Tali Urang Julu, Kabupaten Pakpak Bharat
Abstract
The IP 400 rice program enables four rice-growing seasons annually on the same land, but its implementation can generate both expected benefits and unintended risks. This study aimed to describe information dissemination, farmers' responses, cultivation practices, innovation consequences, and continued-adoption plans in Sukoharjo Regency. A descriptive quantitative survey was conducted in Mojolaban, Polokarto, and Weru in 2025. Seventy-two farmers were selected from a population of 263 through multistage random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observation, records, and documentation, then analyzed using frequency distributions, percentages, and modes. All respondents received information from extension workers or the Agriculture Office more than twice and participated in socialization and farmer-group discussions, while 66.67% sought additional information. Only 41.67% followed the recommended varietal pattern, and 66.67% reported insufficient irrigation for four seasons. IP 400 increased annual land-use intensity and cumulative production, although per-season productivity was lower than conventional cultivation, at 4.8 versus 5.2 tons/ha. All respondents reported increased labor, time, dependence on early-maturing seed and irrigation, and chemical-input use; 22.2% perceived declining soil fertility. Continued adoption was planned independently by 23.6%, conditionally with government support by 44.4%, and discontinued by 31.9%. IP 400 should therefore be implemented selectively in locations with reliable irrigation, adequate seed, manageable costs, continuous extension support, and sustainable soil management.
