Author Guidelines

The author should read the following guidelines carefully. A manuscript that not go along with the guidelines could be easily rejected or returned to the author.

  1. The manuscript should be fully written in English. We recommend the author to check spelling and grammar in Microsoft Word before submission to avoid any typos or grammatical mistakes.
  2. The manuscript should contain unpublished work and not being considered for publication elsewhere. However, the manuscript could be a working paper in several web pages (SSRN, ResearchGate, Academia, etc.)
  3. SMBR is a peer-reviewed journal (blind review). Therefore, the manuscript should not contain any information about the author. No need to put author name or institution in the manuscript. We limit maximum five authors in each manuscript submitted.
  4. The manuscript should be written in the Microsoft Word (Times New Roman, 12 pt) with the justified format, using 1 space. The manuscript ideally contains approximately 5,000-6,000 words including references, tables, figures, and abstract.
  5. The manuscript should be organized as follows.
  • Title – It should briefly and clearly describe the content. Avoid any abbreviation when possible.
  • Abstract – It contains 150-250 words. It should briefly state the purpose, method, and result of the manuscript. Please also provide 4-6 keywords below the abstract.
  • Introduction – The author should write an introduction in such a way that it describes the aims or purposes of the research and why the issue is important, supported by the recent literature/citations in the relevant field. It is also crucial to mention the contribution of the study concerning the prior publications. The author may also write the policy implications when applicable.
  • Literature review and/or hypothesis development – This part is optional. This means that author could skip this part if the introduction is sufficient enough to describe related literature and expected results from the study.
  • Method or methodology – This part contains data used in the analysis, source of the data, sampling method (if any), econometrical or model specifications, variable definitions, and descriptive statistics.
  • Results and discussion – This section contains outputs of what author has done in empirical testing. It should also contain figures, tables, and graphs that are supported by the description, interpretation, and the discussion. The author should be able to explain the reasons for the obtained results as well as its relevance to the other results in the references.
  • Conclusion – It describes the short review of the paper. It looks like an extended version of the abstract. When possible, the author could discuss the implications, limitation, and suggestion for further research in this section.
  • Reference – please see the point 7.
  1. We recommend authors to see the article template here to apply point 5.
  2. Reference and citations.
  • We recommend the author to use a third-party reference manager (Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote) so that the format could be easily changed and adjusted when needed.
  • SMBR currently adopt Harvard style.
  • Example of References: Nys, E., Tarazi, A. and Trinugroho, I. (2015), “Political connections, bank deposits, and formal deposit insurance”, Journal of Financial Stability, Vol. 19, pp. 83–104.
  • Example of in-text citations: Worldwide, politics remarkably influences business, particularly in countries with high level of corruption, weak legal systems, and poor governance (Faccio, 2006). A study by Nys et al. (2015) find that politically connected banks are able to attract more depositors than their non-connected counterparts.
  1. All manuscript submitted to SMBR, when it is suitable to the journal focus and submission guidelines, will be sent to the one or two external reviewers for blind review. If the manuscript obtains a positive feedback from the reviewer(s), the manuscript will be sent back to the author for revision. The manuscript will be published when the author fulfilled the revision before the deadline. However, in the end, it is the journal editor who has authority to accept or reject manuscript submitted to SMBR, either before or after the review process.
  2. A manuscript that has been submitted to SMBR and in the review process is not allowed to be submitted to any other journals.
  3. For more information and questions, please feel free to contact us at journal.smbr@gmail.com or Mr. Azis Eko Prakoso at +6285726256524. However, please note that any manuscript submission to SMBR is carried out through the online system on the website. Please do not send manuscript to the journals’ or editors’ email.
