UPAYA MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MENYIMPULKAN ISI BACAAN DENGAN MEMBACA CEPAT 250 KATA PER MENIT (KPM) MENGGUNAKAN METODE TRI-FOKUS STEVE SNYDER PADA SISWA KELAS VIII SMP YPAC SURAKARTA TAHUN PELAJARAN 2014/2015

Abstract


Fast reading 250 words per minute using Tri-Focus Steve Synder method is a reading technique which combines motor movement skills (eye movement) or visual skills and cognitive skills in reading, without ignoring the reading comprehension. The eyes concentration point while reading using Tri-Focus Steve Synder method is centered on three focuses (three parts) for each line, those are partly in the left, in the middle, and in the right.

The research objectives are: (1) describing the implementation of Tri-Focus Steve Synder method in fast reading 250 words per minute as a way to improve the students’ skill in concluding their reading at the eighth grade students of Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (YPAC) Junior High School of Surakarta, (2) describing the improvement of the students’ skill in concluding their reading by fast reading 250 words per minute at the eighth grade students of Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (YPAC) Junior High School of Surakarta after using Tri-Focus Steve Synder method.

This research is a classroom action research. It is conducted in two cycles, and each cycle consists of: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The research subject is the eighth grade students of Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (YPAC) Junior High School of Surakarta. The research data were from the students, events, informants, and documents. The techniques of collecting data are tests, observations, interviews, and photos. For the data validity. The techniques of analyzing data are descriptive percentage technique and descriptive qualitative technique.

The result of this research shows that most of the eighth grade students of Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (YPAC) Junior High School of Surakarta can apply the fast reading learning 250 words per minute by using Tri-Focus Steve Synder method. The eighth grade students of Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (YPAC) Junior High School of Surakarta get a skill improvement in concluding their reading by fast reading 250 words per minute by using Tri-Focus Steve Synder method. The students’ average scores during pre-cycle is 54.2 and it increases up to 62.3 in cycle I, and becomes 79 in cycle II.
