Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to improve the activities and achievements of Indonesian language students in class IX B of SMP Negeri 1 Pagentan on the competence of finding themes, settings, and characterizations in short stories in one short story book 2016/2017 academic year. The results showed that learning with the Snowball Throwing method can increase the activity and learning achievement of IXB grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Pagentan in Indonesian language learning semester 1 of the 2016/2017 school year. Research on learning achievement that the author has done can improve student learning achievement from an average of 73.9 in pre-cycle to 77.8 in cycle I and 82.5 in cycle II, an increase in average learning achievement from pre-cycle to cycle I is 3.9, from cycle I to cycle II was 4.7 so the increase from pre cycle to cycle II was 8.6. By applying the snoball throwing method, it can improve student learning activities from 21.9% pre-cycle to 58.7% in cycle I and 87.5% in
cycle II. The increase in student learning activity from pre cycle to cycle I was 36.8%, from cycle I to cycle II by 28.8%, so the increase from pre cycle to cycle II was 65.6%.
