Analisis Teknik Penerjemahan Kata Umpatan pada Subtitle Serial Netflix “Everything Sucks”

Abstract

Abstract:  The diversity of swearwords is a product of distinct cultural development of each society in using language. The phenomenon of swearing between languages can be found in a movie subtitling. This research aims at identifying the function of swearwords used in a subtitle and analyzing the translation technique used by the translator. The research data are obtained from the subtitle of a Netflix series titled Everything Sucks. The function of swearwords will be analyzed based on Andersson and Trudgil’s theory while the translation technique be based on Molina and Albir’s. This is a qualitative descriptive research. The result shows that there are 4 different functions of swearwords: Expletive, Abusive, Humorous, and Auxiliary, and there are  6 different translation techniques used by the translator: Established Equivalent, Particularization, Adaptation, Reduction, Literal, and Transposition.

Abstrak: Keragaman kata umpatan dalam tiap-tiap bahasa disebabkan oleh perbedaan perkembangan kebudayaan masyarakat dalam menggunakan behasa tersebut. Penggunaan kata umpatan lintas bahasa dapat ditemui salah satunya dalam penerapan subtitle film. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi fungsi kata umpatan serta menganalisis teknik penerjemahan kata umpatan yang muncul dalam subtitle film. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari subtitle serial Netflix yang berjudul Everything Sucks. Fungsi kata umpatan dianalisis berdasarkan teori Andersson dan Trudgill dan teknik penerjemahan berdasarkan teori Molina dan Albir. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan 4 fungsi kata umpatan yang digunakan yaitu Expletive, Abusive, Humorous, dan Auxiliary serta terdapat enam teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan yaitu Padanan Lazim, Partikularisasi, Adaptasi, Reduksi, Literal, dan Transposisi.
