IMPERATIVE FORM RELATED TO THE PANDEMIC COVID-19 IN SOCIAL MEDIA: LINGUISTIC POLITENESS SIGNS

Abstract

Abstract: Imperative is a form of sentence or verb to express an order or obligation or prohibition of doing an action. Currently, many imperative forms are found related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The use of social media is considered very effective in spreading appeals or invitations to the public regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study is to describe the imperative form related to the Covid-19 pandemic on social media. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method that describes an imperative form in social media. The data and data sources of this study are the form of imperative expressions circulating on the covid-19 pandemic social media. The research technique takes three work steps, namely the stage of data collection, data processing, and the stage of presenting the results of data analysis. The data that has been collected are then analyzed according to the existing problems and the theory used, and presented with informal methods or simple words. The results of the study were twelve imperative forms, which contained the meaning of orders, appeals, invitations, prohibitions, hopes, excuses, insistences, requests, warnings, orders, affirmations, and persuasions.
