ANALISIS KALIMAT YANG MEREPRESENTASIKAN TUTURAN MENGANCAM MUKA NEGATIF MITRA TUTUR PADA TERJEMAHAN KUMPULAN CERITA PENDEK THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES

Abstract

Speech act is a part of pragmatics activity that shows how people should communicate in society. Speech act is not only done in a daily verbal conversation but also in a discourse like novel or short stories. In a conversation people may hurt the image of the hearers or the speakers themselves by saying something threatening that further we call as face threatening act. This paper is aimed at analyzing the types of face threatening act in translation version of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. This research is descriptive qualitative and focuses on a single case. The data in this study were sentences representing the face threatening acts found in the translation version of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The data collecting techniques used in this research is document analysis. After doing the analysis on 106 data , there were 16 types of face threatening acts found in this study. The FTA done by Speaker 1 and its speech acts are: directive: asking 52%, commanding 9,4%, requesting 8,4%, warning 6,7%, challengeing 1,8%, insisting 0,9%, and inviting 0,9%. Assertives: denying 0,9%. Commissive: threatening 4,8% and promising 1,9%. Expressives: mocking 5,7%, apologizing 3,8%, complaining 1,9% and insulting 0,9%. In this paper also found that FTA asking dominated among the another FTA type. This happened because The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes tells about the adventures of a detective in deducting and solving the case of his clients that full of investigation either to the victims or the accused ones.
