PRESUPOSISI DALAM WACANA MENGENAI RASISME : TINJAUAN PRAGMATIK TERHADAP NOVEL MAIZON AT THE BLUE HILL KARYA JACQUELINE WOODSON

Abstract

Pragmatics analyzes the meaning of language based on the context in the process of communication. By comprehending the pragmatic rules it is hoped that spekers can use the language in communication properly and the utterances or sentences that are produced can be functioned effectively. Besides that it is also hoped that the hearers can give reponse or feed back for the messeges that are sent by speaker to them. One of pragmatic subject is presupposition. Presupposition is a conclusion or preassumption that is constructed by spekers before they produce an utterance. The speker assume that the hearer will have the same understanding with what what they suppose. There are six types of presuppositions in pragmatic studies, they are: existensialis presupposition, factive presupposition, lexical presupposition, non factive presupposition, structural presupposition, and counterfactual presupposition. This article is aimed at explaining the analysis of presupposition types in novel Maizon At The Blue Hill written by Jacqueline Woodson. This analysis is executed by using pragmatics an racism perspective. The result of the analysis shows that there are six types of presupposition in this novel (existensialis presupposition, factive presupposition, lexical presupposition, non factive presupposition). Most of the presuppositions can be found in the utterance sthat are made by white speakers. The presupposition can not be separated from the racism discourse that surrounded the novel
