Abstract

The functional response of Oreochromis mossambicus Peters to prey density (larva Aedes aegypti L) had been studied on December 2013 until February 2014 in Laboratory Department of Biology-Chemistry, Faculty of Technique, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Indraprasta University, Jakarta by using Holing Methods. Experiment was arranged with Randomized Block Design (RBD) factorial, where the first factor (A) was the size of Oreochomis mossambicus (2, 4, 6 cm). The second factor (B) was the density of larva mosquito (5, 10, 15, and 20 individual/lit). The result of this study showed that the time for searching the prey by predator decreased at the increase of prey density. The handling time decrease with the size of fish Oreochromis mossambicus, it increases prey density. In treatment with the fish about 2 cm length with density of Aedes aegypti larvae 5, 10, 15, and 20 the handling time is 40,48; 14,47; 9,75; 7,75 second respectively and the fish size 4 cm is 29,73; 15,37; 9,60; 7,30 second. The fish size 6 cm didn’t eat mosquito larvae. The model of functional response of Oreochromis mossambicus Peters density of mosquito larvae of Aedes aegypti is the type III (sigmoid).
