Peran Lamun sebagai Bioindikator Kualitas Perairan Pesisir

Abstract

Lamun merupakan tumbuhan berbunga (Angiospermae) yang memiliki sejarah evolusi yang panjang untuk dapat hidup beradaptasi di lingkunngan perairan laut yang memiliki salinitas dan energy gelombang yang tinggi. Sebagai satu-satunya tumbuhan tingkat tinggi yang dapat hidup di laut, lamun memiliki daya sensitivitas yang tinggi terhadap kondisi perairan di sekitarnya.Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji potensi lamun sebagai bioindikator kualitas perairan di wilayah pesisir.Berdasarkan hasil telaah literatur, kondisi tekanan atau stress pada lingkungan perairan laut yang diakibatkan oleh berbagai aktivitas manusia, misalnya polusi logam berat, dapat mempengaruhi kondisi lamun akibat menurunnya kualitas perairan yang berdampak pada berkurangnya intensitas cahaya yang masuk ke badan perairan, polusi nutrien, dan kualitas sedimen. Dengan demikian lamun dapat berperan dalam memberikan peringatan awal akan adanya perubahan kondisi lingkungan atau sebagai alat diagnosis terhadap adanya masalah lingkungan.
