<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>Thyroid crisis is a medical emergency that causes damage to various organs of the body so that proper diagnosis and immediate treatment are needed. Excess thyroid hormone also affects blood sugar metabolism, especially in diabetic patients. The occurrence of thyroid crisis in conjunction with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is rare, and the exact pathogenesis is still being investigated. We report a case of thyroid crisis in a DKA patient.</p><p><strong>Case Presentation: </strong>A 35-year-old woman was brought by her family to the ER due to a loss of consciousness since 6 hours before admission to the hospital. The patient was said to have complained of fever, shortness of breath, palpitations since the previous day. The patient has a history of uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) since 5 years ago. Physical examination showed somnolence, blood pressure 120/72 mmHg, pulse rate 126 beats per minute, irregular, respiratory rate 28 breaths per minute, fast and deep breaths. Investigations showed blood sugar 320 mg/dL, uncompensated metabolic acidosis, ketonuria. The patient received DKA therapy, but her consciousness and pulse rate had not improved. TSH levels was low with an increase in fT4 levels, with the Burch-Wartofsky score supporting a thyroid crisis. The patient then received treatment for thyroid crisis and her clinical condition showed significant improvement.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The occurrence of thyroid crisis along with DKA is a life-threatening emergency. <p class="AbstractNormal"><strong>Introduction: </strong>Contact lenses are intended to treat refractive errors in the eye, as a diagnostic aid, and to support the personal appearance. A case study suggested that contact lenses cause eye diseases due to less knowledge and misbehavior when wearing contact lenses. This study was conducted to know the level of knowledge and behavior of using contact lenses among medical students of Universitas Kristen Krida Wacana (UKRIDA), intake 2016.</p><p class="AbstractNormal"><strong>Methods: </strong>It employed a descriptive analysis with a cross-sectional study. A total of 97 students who use contact lenses filled out a questionnaire in Google form.</p><p class="AbstractNormal"><strong>Results: </strong>The result demonstrated that 91 respondents (94%) had good knowledge about using contact lenses. Regarding behavior, 80 (93%) belonged to a good category.</p><p class="AbstractNormal"><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Their good knowledge and behavior towards using soft contact lenses might minimize their risk of red eye incidence upon using them.</p><p class="Keywords"> </p>Regina PongtuluranElisabeth Elida Elyus MandalahiFelix Jordan WangsaMarni WidyasaSanti Anugrahsari

<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>Vertebrobasilar artery stenosis can be extracranial or intracranial, and accounts for up to 20% of posterior circulation ischemic strokes. The gold standard for diagnosing is Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), an invasive diagnostic method by injecting a contrast agent into the blood vessels leading to the brain through a catheter. This study aims to determine the profile of patients with intracranial and extracranial vertebrobasilar artery stenosis who underwent DSA procedures.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>This descriptive research was conducted in RSUD Dr. Moewardi in patients who underwent DSA procedures for the period January 2020 to March 2022 and found vertebrobasilar artery stenosis. The study samples were grouped based on the location of the stenosis; intracranial and extracranial. The data collected included age, gender, symptoms, risk factors, degree of stenosis, and angiographic findings.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Of 42 subjects, 33 (78.6%) patients were male. There are 23 (54.8%) patients with intracranial vertebrobasilar stenosis and 19 (45.2%) patients in extracranial. The main symptoms included hemiparesis, vertigo, hemiesthesia, loss of consiciousness, aphasia, dysartria, and dysphagia. The risk factors were 36 (85.7%) patients with hypertension, 18 (42.9%) patients with diabetes mellitus, 18 (42.9%) patients with a history of smoking, and 13 (31%) patients with hyperlipidemia. A total of 8 patients underwent stenting/angioplasty.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The prevalence of vertebrobasilar artery stenosis increases with age, most commonly occurring at the age of 50-59 years..The most common risk factor for vertebrobasilar artery stenosis is hypertension. <p><strong>Introduction</strong>: Stroke is one of the most common diseases causing disability. Stroke severity assessed using National Institute Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) was recognized affecting quality of life in stroke patients. This study evaluated the NIHSS delta as a predictor of quality of life in thrombotic stroke patients</p><p><strong>Methods</strong>: This study was conducted from January to September 2022 with cross-sectional approach. At inpatient setting, NIHSS was assessed at admission, first 24 hours, and discharge. Patient’s quality of life was evaluated using the SSQOL-12 questionnaire via telephone. Bivariate linear regression analysis was used to assess this correlation.</p><p><strong>Results</strong>: Demographic data of 61 patients showed that 65.4% of patients were male, 54.1% of patients aged <60 years, and 67.2% had moderate stroke (NIHSS 6-15). The results of bivariate analysis using linear regression showed that both the 24 hour-delta NIHSS and the delta NIHSS-admission-discharge were positively related to SSQOL-12 score (p = 0.000).</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong>: Delta NIHSS can be used as clinical improvement predictor with positive correlation to the quality of life in thrombotic stroke patients</p>Raden Andi Ario TedjoMartha Oktavia Dewi SavitriStefanus Erdana Putra

<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>Laryngopharyngeal reflux<strong> (</strong>LPR) symptoms are unspecific and make it difficult for clinicians to make a diagnosis. Several types of questionnaires have been developed to diagnose LPR such as the reflux symptoms score (RSS) and reflux sign assessment (RSA) questionnaires. However, the use of these questionnaires in Indonesia is still experiencing obstacles because there is no Indonesian version that has been tested for validity and reliability. This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Indonesian versions of RSS and RSA.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>This study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design involving 40 patients with LPR during January-March 2023. Questionnaire validity was assessed using external and internal validity methods, while reliability was assessed using internal consistency and test-retest reliability.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The Indonesian versions of the RSS and RSA had good internal consistency with Cronbach's α values of 0.734-0.831 and 0.743-0.809 respectively. Test-retest reliability for RSS and RSA was also good with r<sub>s</sub> of 0.930 and 0.842 respectively with p<0.001 for both questionnaires. The Indonesian versions of RSS and RSA also proved to have good validity with high correlations between RSS with reflux symptoms index (RSI) and RSA with reflux finding score (RFS) with p<0.001 for both questionnaires).</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The Indonesian versions of the RSS and RSA questionnaires were found to be valid and reliable for the assessment of symptoms and diagnosis of LPR.</p>Putu Wijaya Kandhi

<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of metabolic factors, including low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. Vernonia amygdalina (VA) leaves have been documented for their anti-cholesterol properties. The purpose of this study to evaluate ethanol extract of VA leaves in rising HDL-C levels in the MetS model.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>An experimental study using pre-and post-test design was conducted using 30 male Wistar rats divided into five groups randomly. KN group served as the control group. KP group was the MetS model without ethanol extract administration. Meanwhile, P1, P2, and P3 were MetS models and were administered ethanol extract of VA leaves administration (50mg/kg, 100mg/kg, and 150 mg/kg) for 28 days. The data were analysed using paired t-test and one-way ANOVA (α=0,05).<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Results: </strong>This study discovered that administering the extract in P1, P2, and P3 significantly improved HDL levels. Furthermore, increasing the dose resulted in significantly greater HDL levels. VA leaves contain phytochemicals that have impacts on cholesterol levels in the blood. Flavonoids and tannin inhibit ester cholesterol formation. Terpenoid and flavonoid hinder HMG-CoA. Saponin contributes to free cholesterol transporter, reducing oxidative stress and increasing LDL receptors. Lastly, vitamin C raises catabolism levels and clearance LDL.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>There are increases in HDL levels in the MetS model group receiving ethanol extract VA leaves.<strong> </strong></p>Dyonisa Nasirochmi PakhaIda NurwatiAgus Jati SunggoroMuthmainah MuthmainahSelfi Handayani

<p class="AbstractNormal"><strong>Introduction</strong><strong>:</strong><strong> </strong>The secondary metabolites flavonoids and triterpenoids in duku leaves have antimicrobial properties. Cream have some drawbacks, including fragility to erratic stirring, brittleness when dried up, and poor storage stability. Triethanolamine reacts with stearic acid will form triethanolamine stearate which can increase stability of the cream. This research aimed to find the ideal ratio of stearic acid to triethanolamine for making an antibacterial composition.</p><p class="AbstractNormal"><strong>Methods</strong><strong>:</strong><strong> </strong>Optimization of the cream is carried out by Simplex Lattice Design method, made 8 run with the smallest proportion of stearic acid 15g and the highest 17g, and the smallest proportion of triethanolamine 2g and the highest 4g. Responses used in Simplex Lattice Design<em>, </em>namely pH, viscosity, adhesion, and spreadability. T-test was used to verification of the optimal formula and ANOVA was used to analysis of antibacterial data.</p><p class="AbstractNormal"><strong>Result</strong><strong>s: </strong>The optimal formula was 17 grams of stearic acid and 2 grams of triethanolamine make the optimal cream. The test results show that there is no significant difference between the optimal formula and the predictions in the Simplex Lattice Design software, with a pH of 6.33±0.033, a viscosity of 179.67±0.333, an adhesion of 1.377±0.038, and a spreadability of 5.133±0.044. The best formula has moderate antibacterial activity (6.62±0.007 mm inhibition zone) against <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em>.</p><p class="AbstractNormal"><strong>Conclusion</strong><strong>: </strong>The optimal formula has good physical properties and is efficacious as an antibacterial.</p>Dwi SaryantiSekar Mayang Prameswari
